Whatever happenend to the little red boxes ?

Many years ago I heard an anecdote about surveillance that suggested the spy satellites being used by the US to observe military movements on the ground were so good they not only showed a russian peasant taking a piss against a tree, but gave yankee condom makers grounds for believing there might be a market for the extra-large product in the russian steppelands.

Urban Myth ? God I hope so.

But this morning I wonder if Caroline Flint still feels that the "surveillance society" which has been imposed on us by the paranoid control freak that led her government for the past ten years, and maintained and indeed some say made worse by the bumbling idiot he made way for, is a GOOD thing.

I recall hearing that "Dear Prudence" himself was unimpressed by the revelation to the public of how much this government spends on the little red boxes. But I must say, Gordon, that your demands for economy and the adoption of a protection mechanism for state secrets that seems to borrow from the world of Hans Christian Anderson is an economy too far.
